What Does The Startup Landscape Look Like Today?

Emerging technologies present a real opportunity to impact the insurance industry

Key Takeaway
Established insurance companies face interesting challenges when it comes to emerging technologies.

Participants at InsureTech Connect 2016 included CEOs and founders of  150+ startups in the insurance sector as well as the major venture/private equity investors and senior leaders from established players in the insurance ecosystem (insurers, reinsurers, brokers, technology companies and service providers). Among those attending were folks who have invested capital in the burgeoning InsurTech community, like Martha Notaras of XL Innovate and Caribou Honig of QED Investors, as well as pioneers who have created new ways for small businesses to get the insurance help they need, such as Rashmi Melgiri, the COO and co-founder of CoverWallet. Insurance has been slow to adapt to a world that is changing driven by technology and socioeconomic trends. There has been a recent surge in interest and investments in disrupting insurance through the use of technology and the conference was in many ways the coming out party for the InsurTech community.
